Who are the Host Families
Two Worlds United
Host Families. Host
Families
are carefully chosen by Two Worlds United based upon their desire to host a visiting student
and their ability to provide a safe, comfortable home and a positive cultural
experience for their new family member. Host families decide to host for
many reasons: to make friends with a young person from abroad, to encourage the
exchange of ideas, to share their culture and to learn about yours. They
will offer guidance, help you adjust throughout your stay and help you
understand life in their country. They will be eager to answer your
questions and above all, they will want to welcome you as a member of their
family.
What are the Host Families
like. The
volunteer host families selected for Two Worlds United exchange students are carefully
screened. They agree to take a young
person from another country into their home and teach him or her about their own
culture and language.
A host family provides warm care and counseling as well as room and board
for their exchange student.
Each family is interviewed in their home and is chosen for their ability
and desire to welcome a young person.
Because a student’s well being is Two Worlds United’s foremost priority, host
families are carefully screened.
The Families are diverse.
They
may have children of any age, not necessarily teenagers, or they may not have
children at all.
There may be other relatives living in the home.
They may live in urban, suburban, or rural areas, and they may live in an
apartment or on a farm.
They will have one feature in common - a desire to welcome an exchange
student into their home and to treat him/her as a member of the family.
Students are matched with host families based on common
interests and activities.
